A simple way to feel more grounded: PQ Reps

When life feels busy, emotional, or overwhelming, it’s easy to get stuck in our heads.

PQ reps (short for Positive Intelligence reps) are quick, simple practices that help bring us back into the present moment by using our senses.

They’re not about fixing anything or pushing feelings away.

Instead, they gently help us pause, calm our nervous system, and respond with more clarity and ease.
What Are PQ Reps?

PQ reps are tiny mindfulness moments we can use anywhere. They shift us from stress or reactivity into calm awareness by focusing on physical sensations.

Some easy examples:

  • Gently rubbing our fingertips together and noticing the texture
  • Feeling our feet firmly supported by the floor
  • Wriggling our toes
  • Taking a slow, deep breath and noticing it move in and out
  • Tuning into one sound around us
  • Noticing sensations in our body, especially where we feel tense
  • Slowing down to really feel everyday moments, like washing our hands or sipping a drink

Even 30–60 seconds can make a difference.


When Can You Use Them?

What meditation aims to bring about in a quiet setting, PQ reps allow us to access pretty much anytime:

  • When we’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed at work
  • When emotions run high with family or loved ones
  • When we’re stuck in traffic or waiting somewhere
  • Before a presentation or after a tough conversation
  • When our mind is racing or we feel impatient
  • While faced with any kind of discomfort - exercising, working, child-minding...

PQ reps help us pause instead of react.


Why It Matters

Life doesn’t suddenly become easier—but we become steadier.

These small moments of grounding help us:
  • Feel calmer and more focused
  • Respond instead of react
  • Connect more deeply with ourselves and others
  • Appreciate the moment we’re in

Over time, showing up for ourself in this way naturally helps us show up better for everyone else too.

Sometimes the most powerful form of self-care is simply pausing… and being here.


🌿 Try This: A 1-Minute PQ Rep

We  can do this anywhere, anytime.

1. Pause
Stop for a moment. Notice how you’re feeling without judging or trying to change anything.

2. Ground
Gently rub your fingertips together or place both feet on the floor.

3. Focus
Pay close attention to the physical sensation — the texture of your skin, the pressure of your feet, or your breath moving in and out.

4. Breathe
Take 2–3 slow, natural breaths, keeping your attention on your sensations and noticing their impact.

5. Choose your response
Notice how you feel now. A little calmer. A little more present. From this steadier place, decide what matters next.

✨  That’s it. One minute is enough.
