Befriending our Restless Saboteur

Do you somehow find yourself constantly busy
and rarely at peace or content with what you're doing?

If so you may well be experiencing some tendencies of the restless saboteur.

According to research in Positive Intelligence (PQ) - in some way or another, most of us on our planet today are affected by this fidgety character trait...

This saboteur loves to keep us distracted, multi-tasking and juggling lots of plates all at once.

It leaves us feeling unfulfilled while always seeking new stimulation, peeved when others might not keep up.

It does everything possible to evade unpleasant feelings and is strongly driven by the fear of missing out.

It spins the myth that life is too short and must be lived fully at all costs.

We end up spreading ourselves thin and have trouble following through on what we intended to do.

At heart, the restless saboteur tries to protect us from the full experience of issues and relationships that truly matter.

We may have developed this tendency early on, when restlessness helped us deal with inadequate parental nurturing or painful circumstances.

It may have helped us avoid dealing with anxiety and pain by constantly finding new sources of excitement, pleasure and self-nurturing.

The more we can recognize and befriend our restless tendencies, in order to make new, wiser choices, the more we can bring out the underlying strengths of this saboteur:

  • high energy and vitality
  • openness
  • curiosity and
  • spontaneity.

It's key to remember we all have saboteurs simply by virtue of being human and, from a PQ perspective, each saboteur emerges through the overuse or abuse of our greatest strength...

As such, befriending our saboteurs can help us reclaim our innate strengths as we learn to intercept our saboteur tendencies and make healthier choices.
